The ICDF becomes fully operational on Oct. 1, 2004 under the command of U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Joseph V. Medina, Commander, Task Force Five Eight (CTF-58)/Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3). The ICDF, along with coalition forces, will contribute to security and stability operations in Iraqi territorial waters and will include the protection of Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya oil terminals.
