Summary
New Bedford Free Public Library (later New Bedford City Hall), William St., New Bedford, MA. Caption: CENTER OF LEARNING -- The old public library building, now the Municipal building. Its cornerstone was laid Aug. 28, 1856, and it was used until Dec. 1, 1910, when the present Free Public library was opened. When this picture was taken, the top floor was used for storing the volumes, and the ground floor was occupied by municipal offices.
