- & Co. In 1871 a stock company was formed,named the Mount Washington Glass Company, with a capital of$100,000, which was afterwards increased to $150,000. W. L.Libbey was appointed agent and Capt. Henry Libbey, superin-tendent. In 1872 W. L. Libbey resigned to accept the agency of theNew England Glass Company and the management devolved onCapt. Libbey. The business of the company was widely spread,but in the general depression in 1873 the shrinkages impaired thecompanys capital. Capt. Libbey re-signed in 1874 ^^^ ^^^^ factory wasclosed. In the fall of the same year thecompany resumed business, and themanagement was placed in the handsof the present agent, Frederick S.Shirley, with Robert G. Tobey astreasurer, and Robert King, glasshouse manager, A. H. Seaburv actingas president. The company was re-organized in 1876, since which time it has worked continuously.In 1881 the facilities of the factory were increased by the
