Nine barges loaded with coal are pinned against the upper McAlpine Dam on the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky following an incident which occurred Tuesday, Dec. 25 when the towing vessel struck the nearby Clark Memorial Bridge causing the barges to break free. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley, and the navigation industry continue their joint response to safely and efficiently salvage the remaining barges, most of which have capsized.
