Significance: The Old Saybrook Railroad Station Interlocking Tower (1912) is significant as it is a rare, surviving example of a railroad interlocking, or switch tower. The Tower is one of three remaining timber-framed interlocking towers on the former New Haven Railroad main line, and is also significant for the retention of its manual switch machinery. The Interlocking Tower is also historically significant as evidence of Old Saybrook's importance as a railroad junction, and illustrates the development of railroad communications and safety technology.
