Sutter Basin Companys plant at Tisdale Weir district in 1910, which was in the neighbor-hood of 1000 horsepower. It may be said, too, that the figures givenof present load do not represent the load that our com-may beupon toserve in thenear future, forthe reason thata considerableacreage in theYolo district isgiven over torice cultivationand during thepast season therice irrigationplants were notrun to full ca-pacity. As amatter of fact,it is estimatedthat between3,000 and 4,000horsepower inmotor installa-tion in theserice plants wasnot made useof. The typeof motor, ofcourse, haschanged duringthe years. In Yolo county territory,as a general thing, the water level is fairlyclose to the surface of the ground, and atthe Woods plant there is an 8-inch pumpwhich is driven by the 25 horsepower mo-tor referred to. A unit of this size is largeenough to supply water for about 100 acresof alfalfa. Another small installation of moderntype is the 20 horsepower plant installedon the H. O. Harrison stock ranch, onemile north of Woodland. Here there is an8-inch pump installed. Among the larger installations in the ter-ritory are the plants of the Sutter BasinCompany located near Knights Landing. The main pumping plant is of 1650 horse-power capacity, and is located
