Pāhoa, Hawaii, May 20, 2018 – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contractor Wilson Yee tests the amount of sulfur dioxide in the air in the Black Sands neighborhood impacted by the Kīlauea volcanic eruption, while his team installs a temporary air monitoring station. As part of a FEMA mission-assignment, EPA is working with the Hawaii Department of Health to help keep residents safe by installing air monitoring stations, which provide data on sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and particulate levels.
