Paratroopers assigned to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Alaska, participate in a brigade-level unit run on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Aug. 16, 2018, to commemorate National Airborne Day. Aug. 16, 1940, marked the first official Army parachute jump, validating the innovative concept of inserting United States ground combat forces behind a battle line by parachute, and is a recognized annually as a special day to honor the U.S. Airborne Forces and the first parachute jump of 48 volunteer members of the U.S. Army Parachute Test Platoon.
