Park dedication ceremony, Hawai'I Volcanoes National Park, 1921. (d2fdc58d67fb418f8055381ec0cd89a8)

NPS Collection photo: August 1, 2015 is the 99th anniversary of Hawai'I Volcanoes National Park. Although the park was official on August 1, 1916, the dedication ceremony didn't take place until July 9, 1921. This photo shows the dedication ceremony happening on the edge of erupting Halema'uma'u Crater. Visitors didn't wear respirators or other gear to protect them from toxic volcanic gases which means a change in wind direction could've been disastrous!
