Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph Beier instructs a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force sailor as he dons a firefighting ensemble at the Center for Naval Engineering Firefighting School at Naval Base San Diego. Twenty-four Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force sailors assigned to the Atago-class guided-missile destroyer JS Ashigara received damage control training from their U.S. Navy counterparts during two days of instruction at the facility.
