This launch is the fourth for Duffy and Wisoff, the third for Chiao and McArthur, second for Wakata and Lopez-Alegria, and first for Melroy. During the 11-day mission to the International Space Station, four extravehicular activities (EVAs), or spacewalks, are planned for construction. The payload includes the Integrated Truss Structure Z-1 and the third Pressurized Mating Adapter. The Z-1 truss is the first of 10 that will become the backbone of the Space Station, eventually stretching the length of a football field. PMA-3 will provide a Shuttle docking port for solar array installation on the sixth Station flight and Lab installation on the seventh Station flight. Launch is scheduled for 7:17 p.m. EDT. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - The STS-115 crew members talk about their upcoming driving practice on the M-113 armored personnel carrier with Capt. George Hoggard (back to camera), who is astronaut rescue team leader. The astronauts seen, left to right, are Mission Specialists Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, Dan Burbank, Steven MacLean and Joe Tanner, and Pilot Christopher Ferguson. The STS-115 crew are at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities such as the M-113 training. Summary

S98-08195 (March 1998) --- Standing on a mobile platform, astronaut Catherine G. Coleman is assisted with final touches for suiting up for a training exercise in the deep pool of JSC's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL). Coleman was participating in a simulation of a contingency space walk in preparation for the STS-93 mission next year. The mission specialist will join four other NASA astronauts for the Space Shuttle Columbia flight, scheduled for spring. The training version of the extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) that Coleman is wearing is weighted and otherwise accommodated to afford neutral buoyancy in the deep pool.
