(Apr. 28, 2004) Photographer's Mate Airman Shannon Renfroe, assigned to USS Nimitz (CVN 68), receives instruction from Mr. Jay Dickman, a National Geographic and Pulitzer Prize winning photographer during the Military Photographic Workshop held at Fleet Combat Camera Group Pacific in San Diego, Calif. The Military Photographer's Workshop is a weeklong course of instruction allowing Navy photographers to get personal mentorship from an industry acclaimed civilian photographer in the art of photojournalism. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
