Pilots of a KC-10, from the 78th Air Refueling Squadron, 514th Air Mobility Wing, experience a phenomenon called St. Elmo fire while flying threw a thundercloud overseas. St. Elmo's fire occurs when the electric field around the aircraft causes ionization of the air molecules, producing a glow, and sparks, easily visible in low-light conditions (Air Force photo by Senior Airman Brian Kelly/released)
