Summary

The Plant-Atlas is a book about the herbal plants that can be used for health remedies. The publication of this book followed that of Sabastian Kneipp's My Water Cure, and is meant as a supplement to help the reader identify plants. For each plant the author provides the latin name, common names, a description, the indigenous locality, flowering season, and his knowledge of the plant's medicinal uses. In the preface Kneipp states that the plant images were obtained through photography, and to his knowledge, it was the first time photography had been used in a botanical work. This book contains 41 plates illustrating 69 plant specimens. Sebastian Kneipp was a priest and well-known in the "Natural Cure Movement" in his native Germany as well as Internationally. He is best known for hydrotherapy.
