Pleasant Beach, Bainbridge Island, ca 1900 (MOHAI 7311)
Summary
Even before the automobile, Bainbridge Island's Pleasant Beach was a popular recreation destination. In the summertime, thousands of people from Seattle, Tacoma and throughout Puget Sound arrived by boat to visit the beach, picnic grounds, bowling alley or one of the saloons.
This photograph, one half of a stereograph, shows the dock and some of the buildings at Pleasant Beach at the south end of Bainbridge Island. Judging by the tall smokestack and the signs, this particular complex seems to have had a fruit stand, a bowling alley and a heated swimming pool.
