Two scenes; the first; a policeman in a couple's bedroom, warning them that their shed-door is open, a lantern held in his hand, the wife peering through the curtains of the bed, the husband holding a candle and a sword in his other hand, clothes on a chair to the right; the second; a lady standing at the door of her drawing room, her servants, who have been throwing a party, reacting with horror and shock at the return of their mistress, a maid fainting and a footman hiding underneath the collapsing table; artist's proof; illustration to the Brothers Mayhew's "The Greatest Plague of Life; or the Adventures of a Lady in Search of a Good Servant" (1847)
