Projectile Point (FOUS 1002) - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
Metal projectile points like this one, that archeologists unearthed at Fort Union, were introduced to American Indians during the fur trade. It’s triangular shape and rectangular stem, called a tang, are similar to the knapped flint points most people picture when thinking about arrowheads. Unlike flint arrowheads, metal points could be mass produced.
