The shorter the exposurethe better is the result. Where possible, the patient should be instructedto hold his breath during the exposure. WTien this does not exceed 20 or30 seconds, it is possible with a little practice for the patient to hold hisbreath. In this way two pictures may be obtained, (1) at the end of in-spiration, and (2) at the end of expiration. AVhen the compression is perfect,it is possible to get good radiographs with exposures of one or two minutes. The next important point in the taking of good radiographs lies in themanagement of the X-ray tube. Here, again, a great deal depends uponthe operator and his knowledge of the apparatus at his command.
