Downey on spanker boom leaning against mast - left background. Captain Morrisey - bearded elderly main in center foreground. Foster - First Mate - seated on capstan to left. Hewitt - Second Mate leaning near Halyards to right. Ross Murphy with hand on belaying pin in mast. Doyle - Apprentice seated at base of mast to left. Corcoran in right background with negro sailor's left hand on shoulder."[CR]"This picture shows some of the crew and officers and apprentices of the British steel full-rigged ship RATHDOWN. Six months voyage around the "horn" to San Francisco from Belfast, Ireland 1892. Crew was mostly colored. Officers and apprentices white."
