Summary
Razor blade stamped ACIER-FOND (“steel edge”) over the cutting edge near the spine. The tang is stamped, G.SMITH, the mark of Georgius Smith, a Sheffield razor-maker active in the mid-1770s. The brass pivot pin has two attached circular, concavo-convex, cupreous washers, each with a raised concentric ring pattern. The 1797 inventory of the North West Company depot at Grand Portage records 315 razors.
