Republican majority leader, Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich deplanes a Gulfstream C-20B onto Grand Forks, Air Force Base, North Dakota, to view the damage done to Grand Forks, North Dakota, and East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Severe flooding due to an unusual snowfall, which melted away, ravaged both cities. Residents were forced to evacuate the cities to nearby shelter locations. The Air Base personnel housed nearly 3,000 people in emergency shelters, as well as taken many people into their own homes
