Kalaupapa and Kalawao Settlements, Kalaupapa National Historical Park. Many of the residents of Kalaupapa lived in individual cottages. Most of these had enclosed yards and a small garden space, either extending off the porch or adjacent to the house.

Generally speaking, the single resident cottages were occupied by healthier, adult patients, whereas group homes offered housing to children and individuals requiring daily assistance.
