Golden gate national recreation area - Rose 'Mutabilis'
Summary
Common name: Rose 'Mutabilis'
Scientific name: Rosa chinensis 'Mutabilis'
Origin: Introduced prior to 1894 by an unknown person
Uses: Single flowers start out light yellow changing to pink and then to crimson.
When the China Roses were introduced to the West there was a great revolution in the world of roses. A China gene is thought to be responsible for repeatability of bloom and they have the unusual characteristic of darkening with age, opposite of other roses. 'Mutabilis' first came to the attention of botanists when it was given to Henri Correvon of Geneva by Prince Ghilberto Borromeo.
