Arthur Henri Poole - Rosslare Hotel
Summary
Rosslare Hotel. That is all it says on the catalogue; Rosslare Hotel! Not "THE" Rosslare Hotel. Or "the Rosslare Hotel". So today we need to find out if there was more than one hotel in Rosslare. And was this one even in Rosslare in the first place?..With thanks to today's contributors, it's confirmed that this is indeed Rosslare, and a hotel and stretch of coastline that we have visited before ( ...nlireland/23121423661/ ) . It is now known as Kelly's Resort Hotel. In fact, based on our community's eagle-eyes, it seems likely that the man in the doorway (standing under the recently painted signage bearing his own name) is proprietor William J. Kelly ( http://www.kellys.ie/upload/slide_images/williamj-and-mary-kelly-family.jpg ) . While a previous hotel was in place before this 3-storey premises, what we see here was built c.1905, and (though much developed since then) is still recognisable today ( https://www.google.ie/maps/@52.2755549,-6.3882535,3a,75y,68.27h,90.82t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s9VXAjuU9rh6QG18UpA1wxQ!2e0!5s20091001T000000!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en ) .......Photographer: A. H. Poole..Collection: Poole Photographic Studio, Waterford ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search/Results?lookfor=A.H.+Poole&type=Author&sort=title&view=grid ) ..Date: c.15 September 1907..NLI Ref: POOLEWP 1687 ( vtls000591965 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
