S35-84-033 - STS-035 - Earth observations of storm clouds over New Guinea taken during STS-35 mission
Summary
The original finding aid described this as:
Description: Earth observation images of storm clouds over New Guinea taken during the STS-35 mission from Columbia, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 102. This tropical thunderstorm was photographed near the vicinity of the SW coast of New Guinea, exact location unknown. The low angle of the late afternoon sun made for some interesting illumination effects of the cloud tops. This tropical storm displays all of the hallmarks of a full fledged storm with cumulonimbus clouds and towering anvils spread over several hundred square miles. Image 033 was selected by the Public Affairs Office (PAO) for public release.
