Summary
Sailors with the USS Comstock depart the ship on a 7-meter rigid-hulled inflatable boat to retrieve six National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) researchers from a remote Hawaiian island, Aug. 8. Marines and sailors from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group team recovered a total of 11 NOAA personnel from three isolated islands more than 900 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii and directly in the path of Hurricane Iselle. MEU aircraft transported the researchers to Midway Atoll, where they could seek shelter from the storm. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Melissa Wenger/Released)
