Summary

Salal (Gaultheria shallon) is a common shrub in Mount Rainier. Part of the heather family, it has similar drooping, urn-shaped flowers. However, unlike its hardy subalpine cousins, Salal can grow to be 5 feet (1.5m) tall and spread to form large thickets.
