SAN DIEGO (October 14, 2016) - Marines and Sailors watch as the USS Makin Island (LHD-8) makes its final turn before leaving the Bay of San Diego, Oct. 14, 2016. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group/11th Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted six months of pre-deployment training before being certified as a sea-based Marine Air-Ground Taskforce in September. The ARG/MEU team will conduct several theater security cooperation exercises and act as America’s crisis response force as it sails through the Western Pacific and to the Middle East.
