description

Summary

When Broadway High School (originally Seattle High School) was built in 1902, Seattle some residents complained that it was too large and a waste of public money. By 1904 the school had 1,700 students, and the building was already crowded. The school closed in June 1946 and re-opened in September 1946 as Edison Technical College. Today the building's auditorium is a part of Seattle Central Community College, and the site is once again used by some district students.
This photo shows the exterior of Broadway High School at 1625 Broadway Avenue on Capitol Hill. The image was published in the June 1903 issue of the Broadway High School magazine, Whims.
