Secretary of Defense Ash Carter walks with Lt. Gen. Russell J. Handy Commander, Alaskan Command, U.S. Northern Command as visits Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Oct. 30, 2015, as part of his Asia - Pacific theater trip. During the trip the secretary will meet with leaders from more than a dozen nations across East Asia and South Asia to help advance the next phase of the U.S. military’s rebalance in the region by modernizing longtime alliances and building new partnerships.
