The machine-gun squad leader is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran currently serving with Company I, Battalion Landing Team 3/1. The battalion serves as the ground combat element for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The unit is underway for a second exercise since becoming a complete Marine-air ground task force in May.
