Shelters provide protection from overhead fire

description

Summary

Marines with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, shovel dirt out of a hole to build a shelter, July 27. The Marines used barriers, sandbags and plywood to build a shelter from indirect fire and explosions. The Marines worked through the day and into the night to dig a hole deep enough for a man to stand in. After the hole was built, Marines then filled sand bags and placed plywood on top of the hole. The shelter, which will protect Marines from shrapnel, is designed to hold about 20 Marines.
