Summary

New York State stereoscopic card.
Robert Dennis's stereographs collection includes more than 72,000 stereoscopic views organized primarily by geography. The collection bears the name of the native New Yorker who assembled it over a period of more than six decades, Robert N. Dennis (1900-1983).
Stereographs consist of two nearly identical photographs or photomechanical prints, paired to produce the illusion of a single three-dimensional image, usually when viewed through a stereoscope. Stereographs were produced from the 1850s to the 1940s, with the bulk between 1870 and 1920.

Gustavus W. Pach was an American photographer who was born in New York City in 1845. He was the son of a German immigrant who had established a successful photographic business in the city. Pach began working with his father at a young age and quickly developed a talent for photography. In 1867, Pach opened his own studio in New York City, which became renowned for its high-quality portraits of prominent figures in American society. He was particularly adept at capturing his subjects' personalities and his portraits were highly sought after by politicians, artists and other public figures. In addition to his portrait work, Pach also became known for his landscape photography. He travelled extensively throughout the United States, capturing images of natural wonders such as Yosemite and Niagara Falls. His photographs were widely published in books and magazines, and he became one of the most respected landscape photographers of his time. Pach was also an innovator in the field of photography, developing new techniques for printing photographs on various materials such as silk and glass. He was also one of the first photographers to experiment with colour photography. Gustavus W. Pach died in 1904 at the age of 59, but his legacy as a pioneering photographer lives on. His work is still highly regarded for its technical skill and artistic vision, and his contributions to the field of photography continue to inspire new generations of photographers.
