Soldiers assigned to the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), participate in first aid and weapon proficiency training for the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) on Fort A.P. Hill, Va., Oct, 23, 2017. Since 1943, the EIB has been awarded to Soldiers with Infantry or Special Forces Military Occupational Specialties. Earning an EIB requires completion of a number of prerequisites and passing a battery of tests on basic infantry skills. These skills include day and night land navigation, first aid, patrol lane tasks, and moving under direct fire. One of the last tests is a 12-mile foot march, which must be completed in three hours.
