Arthur Henri Poole - S.S. Dunbrody stranded in Avon
Summary
To matters maritime to begin the week, a stranded ship on a shore with supporting craft around it...With thanks to sharon.corbet ( /photos/129555378@N07/ ) , guliolopez ( /photos/20727502@N00/ ) , swordscookie ( /photos/swordscookie/ ) , Derek ( /photos/16693700@N03/ ) , patrick.vickers1 ( /photos/patvic67/ ) and B-59 ( /photos/66311327@N05/ ) , it seems that this image (probably a later copy by Poole) shows the 1896 grounding of the SS Dunbrody on the River Avon in England. The ship was refloated during Christmas 1896, and continued to service the Waterford Steamship Company's route from Bristol to Waterford into the early 20th century...If we can refine the location a little, we'd love to pin a location for this on the map.......Photographer: A.H. Poole. .Collection:Poole Photographic Studio, Waterford ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000031416 ) ..Date: ca. 1901-1954 (likely a copy of an 1896 original)..NLI Ref: POOLEWP 0781 ( vtls000590790 ) . .You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
