Summary
Kalaupapa and Kalawao Settlements, Kalaupapa National Historical Park. Spirituality was an important aspect of life at Kalaupapa, reflected in the various churches at the settlement. Built in 1909, St. Francis Catholic church replaced the previous sanctuary, which burnt down in August of 1906. Recent restoration of the structure was completed around 2009. Services are still held here regularly with resident patients and community members, and are currently led by Father Patrick Killilea.
