Jacob Symonsz Pynas - St Paul, Seated at a Table
Summary
The apostle Paul can be recognized by his sword, which is a reference to his beheading. Here he is presented as a scholar in his study: lying on the table before him are a book, an inkpot and a pen. Several more books line the shelf behind him. The loose zigzag lines and the many dots are typical of Jacob Pynas’ drawing style. Compare this work with his much earlier drawing Round Tower and Buildings of 1616.
