French imported housing project at Zillmere, Brisbane, 1952.
The Queensland Housing Commission and French contractors built 886 houses at Zillmere under the Imported Houses (Commonwealth Sponsored) Scheme. The Zillmere project, using labour recruited overseas, was the first estate to be built under the Scheme. The French partners were the firm Messrs. Lècorchè Freres and Schroth, Paris (Information taken from: Queensland. Housing Commission, Report of the Commissioner, 1952).
