Roger de La Fresnaye (1885–1925) was a French painter. He was born in Le Mans, France, and studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. La Fresnaye's early work was influenced by the Impressionists, but he later became interested in the Cubist style. La Fresnaye's paintings often depicted modern life, including landscapes, still lifes and portraits. He was known for his use of bold colours and geometric shapes, which he used to break down objects into their basic forms. His work was also characterised by a sense of movement and energy. La Fresnaye was an important member of the Section d'Or group, which included other prominent Cubist artists such as Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 40, but his contribution to the development of Cubism is still celebrated today.
