use very few cloudnegatives will be found so well balanced that the entire plateis available. It is necessary to preserve harmony betweenlandscapes and skies and this is best accomplished by simplic-ity of form and breadth of light and shadow. As a matter offact, selection is quite as important in reference to the sky asit is in the landscape, and this point should be given the samecareful attention. In concluding, the writer would caution the amateur tokeep in mind the effect of the photograph as a whole, and toalways endeavor to express in the finished print the particularimpression which the subject created in the mind. Everythingincluded in the view should be introduced with the one ideaof embellishing the whole, and every detail, no matter howseemingly unimportant in itself, should be made to furtherthe expression of this one theme. If this method is adoptedthere will be fewer photographs produced, but the few will befound of more value than several hundred of the usual kind. 201
