n lantern slides by double printing, anymore than this is true of bromide paper. It has been done bypatient men who are willing to spend hours of time, and dozensof sheets of paper or box after box of slides—I say it hasbeen done. Personally I never knew anyone that could do it,had done it or had ever seen a slide made this way and mypersonal belief is that the only slide that was made this waywas one of a white crow. Cloud negatives can be had in many varieties, on film. Thebest ones I know of are sold by Butcher & Sons, of London.They may be had in all sizes, at a very small price, can be usedeither way around, and for the method I give here are the onlyones that will do. Any dealer can get them. They are madeon a very thin film stock, and are quite contrasty, and come ina large assortment. Clouds are easiest to put in a lantern slide with a cloud nega-tive of lantern slide size or quarter plate at most. After yourlantern slide is made, fixed, washed and dried, adjust your 136

The slide of thelandscape acts as a mask, and when this slide v^e have justmade is finished, it will be found that the clouds FIT thehorizon no matter how the trees, buildings, etc., project intoit, because the landscape slide was used as a mask and tookcare of all irregularities in the sky line.
