The changes infurniture covering have been more frequent andradical than those in the w-oods. Haircloth andother coverings in use 30 years ago have beensuperseded by materials more varied in textureand coloring. Their variety is almost endless,and they show, perhaps as much as anythingelse, the advance that art as applied to furni-ture has made in this country. The presentcentres of the furniture industry are. with oneexception fGrand Rapids. Mich.), the largestcities, which, with their densely populatedsuburbs and surroundings, offer large markets.The cities whose productions amount to morethan $2,000,000 per annum, in the order of theirimportance, are: Xew York, Chicago, GrandRapids.
