A RKYKRIK $ >?&3i ADVENTURE TALES ANDANIMAL STORIES TALKS ABOUT ADVENTURE STORIES There is probably no sort of story youwould rather read than a story of adventure,and you may be glad to know that yourtaste has been shared by millions of otherpeople since the beginning of writing.Thousands of years ago the Egyptians andGreeks had tales in which the characterswent through all sorts of strange and won-derful adventures, and those tales were themost popular of all. The Chinese too hadmany such tales, and so had the Arabians.Many of the stories in the ArabianNights are little more than adventuretales. The romances of the Middle Ages ofwhich I told you in my talk on fiction con-tained more adventures than anything else,and the historical tales and novels whichcame later are all largely adventure also.But nowadays we give the name of adven-ture tales to stories which are altogetherdevoted to adventures or in which the ad-ventures form the chief interest.
