s I have alreadyindicated, that clinically there is not the striking similarity one wouldhave expected from the practically identical histological picture, but Ibelieve that Darier has laid too much stress on the hyperkeratosis presentin Bowens disease. For, if we eliminate the vegetating hyperkeratosiclesions to which I have referred, we do not find a marked hyperkeratosisin Bowens cases nor in the case under review, and further, with all duedeference, I submit that Dariers explanation requires further investi-gation before it can be finally accepted as conclusive. He states furtherthat this hyperkeratosis is made possible in Bowens disease by theretention of the filaments of union between the rete cells, whereas inPagets disease the dissolution of these filaments prevents the formationof a coherent horny layer.
