description

Summary

One of the first published compilations of physical and chemical constants, this three-part volume includes tables of constants gathered from contemporary research. The tables of part one list over 5000 values for the specific gravities, boiling points, and melting points for elements, compounds, and natural minerals. A supplement to part one includes 700 additional values which were overlooked or mistaken in the first publication. Part two provides tables containing specific heat values for solids and liquids and part three provides tables of expansion by heat for solids and liquids. In each part, a list of papers is included citing research used to compile the tables. This volume is annotated throughout, though primarily in part one, and includes interleaved letters and notes. Written by Frank Wigglesworth Clarke, regarded as the "Father of Geochemistry" and the founder of the American Chemical Society, The Constants of Nature was a standard reference text for the fields of chemistry and geochemistry. The work is digitized in its entirety.
