The crew and color guard aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island, stand at attention during a memorial service in Cannes, France, honoring American pilots lost in a downed B-24 Liberator during World War II. Sailors and embarked Marines aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island also attended to pay homage to the fallen service members. Whidbey Island is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility and celebrated Independence Day in France during a scheduled port visit.
