Before leiving the subject of camphor, it maybe well to mention the fact that about a yf ar agoa process was devised in America by whichcamphor could be made synthetically from turpen-tine, and though no sample has • et been seen inthe London market it is now stated that thecompany are now preparing at their New Yorkworks, machinery for producing 2,000,000 lb.per annum. Menthol. Menthol, or peppermint camphor as it is some-times called, ha3 become so well known as an anr- Inown in the market as Kobayashi crystals. Upto the actual commencement of hostilities, thisquality menthol had been selling in the marketat 16/6 to 10/9 per lb. It has since risen to17/0, and will probably command much higherprices. The oil, after the separation from itof the menthol, is also an article of exportfrom Japan. Vegetable-Wax. Of vegetable-wax it will suffice to say that thissubstance is produced from the small seed-like
