LEMOINE number of suggestions, which, if adopted, shoulddo much to improve the lot of the Belgiangardener. Successes at the New York Inter-national Exhibition.—At the New York Inter-national Horticultural Exhibition, held on April5 to 13, Sir Jeremiah Colman, Bart., GattonPark, Surrey, gained the premier award,a Silver Cup, for the best specimen orchid, aplant of Odontioda Bradshawse. The plantcarried two very fine spikes, the larger withmore than 740 flowers. Odontoglossum Queenof Gatton was awarded the second prize in theopen competition for the best specimen Odonto-glossum. Norwich Flower Show.—Messrs. Daniel Bros., Norwich, were awarded a Gold Medal fortheir exhibits at this exhibition, of which a briefreport was given on p. 277. Like BegoniaGloire de Lorraine, which was raised byVictor Lemoine, the new plant is derived fromB. socrotana. It comes into flower in December,and is at its best in January and February. Thenew hybrid has short upright stems, large, sub-stantial dark-green kidney-shaped leaves. Theflowers, borne in dense clusters on upright flower-stalks, are twice the size of those of Gloire deLorraine, almost a 1 male, of good shape, andof a rich shade of rose carmine.
