The hold-up, second state - Drawing. Public domain image.
Summary
After pulling a sizable edition, forty-two of the first state, Bellows worked a darker, more mysterious quality onto the stone, almost obscuring the figure of the stooping villain on the left. Obviously pleased with the effect, the artist then had twenty-nine additional impressions pulled. (Mason)
