The London Clown Cricketers are coming!
Summary
Knew there was no way we couldn't date this - how often did the London Clown Cricketers come to the Munster Hall and Mardyke Cricket Ground? (At the very least thought there'd be newspaper reports of mothers locking up their daughters!)..Thanks to DannyM8 ( nlireland/8455666538/#comment72157632718265930 ) for pointing out Ger Siggins' excellent account of the Clown Cricketers at Lansdowne Road in Dublin (from Lansdowne Road: the stadium, the matches, the greatest days) and to John Spooner ( nlireland/8455666538/#comment72157632734685337 ) for his newspaper searching. It looks as if the Clown Cricketers played Cork on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th August 1874. So, I hereby declare this one August 1874!..Date: August 1874..NLI Ref: STP_1802 ( vtls000565117 ) . .You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
